Alternative Radio, established in 1986, is an award-winning weekly one-hour public affairs program offered free to all public radio stations in the U.S., Canada, Europe and beyond. AR provides information, analyses, and views that are frequently ignored or distorted in corporate media. With headquarters based in Boulder, Colorado and with only two full-time and two part-time paid staff, AR airs on almost 300 radio stations. Our project is sustained by donations and by listener purchases of season subscriptions, recordings, and transcripts.

Speak My Language
Experiences of Chinese elders' access to healthcare

Speak My Language is a storytelling media arts project highlighting the experiences of Chinese elders facing barriers to access in the BC healthcare system. Created through collaborations between youth and seniors, Speak My Language promotes a greater awareness of accessibility in healthcare, while teaching community members media production skills and building intergenerational connections. 

The audio that CJSF broadcast as part of this series includes an edited recording of the launch event for Speak My Language and the 5 documentaries. Before each documentary, there is a brief introduction by the producer(s) which was lifted from the launch event audio.

Dragged Out
A Podcast about Vancouver's Drag Scene

Monday Productions presents Dragged Out, an investigative series that examines the closures of 5 prominent drag venues over the last twelve months, and how the community is surviving and thriving because of/despite the closures. The episodes feature over twenty voices from the community - performers, promoters, community builders, venue owners - and takes an in-depth look at the wellbeing of a marginalized community within an increasingly-unaffordable, gentrifying city. The podcast is limited-run, spanning over seven 30-45 minute-long episodes. Themes include why drag is important to the community/performer/self, queer/drag history from pre-colonial times to now, gentrification, legalities of owning and operating a queer business, Vancouver's supposed East-West dichotomy, Do-It-Yourself promotion and production, and much more.

Si'em' nu Ts' lhhwulmuhw translates to "My Honoured Fellow Native People" and aims to educate our community on culture and history from Nanaimo's three area First Nations: Snuneymuxw, Stz'uminus and Snaw-Naw-As (Nanoose), and Powell River's first nation's Sliammon, Klahoose and Homalco Nations. These syndicated episodes were origianlly produced at community radio station CHLY 101.7 FM in Nanaimo.
