On December 12th, I went to 333 and saw a few local bands. I had three major reasons for attending said show: first, I didn't know pop punk dudes Hermetic were still playing; second, it was one of my favourite Vancouver mainstays, Crystal Swells, last show; and third, it was to be my first time seeing a band called Malk.
It was a dark, rainy and blustery evening to go out and see a show but Rachael Yamagata is a show I would not miss. The Biltmore Cabaret is perfectly cozy enough for Rachael Yamagata’s music. October 21st's show did not disappoint. Rachael has some very competent and compelling artists touring with her for this tour and they delivered nicely.
There has been a lot of debate recently on whether rock and metal are dead. I'm just an unpaid metal DJ on a small campus/community radio station and my opinion is usually worth about what I'm being paid for it, but I listen to enough rock and metal and go to enough shows to say with confidence that these styles of are far from dead. The days of bands getting multimillion dollar corporate record deals may be a thing of the past (and I'm not sure that is necessarily a bad thing) but the music is far from dead. Rock is very much alive. Metal in particular is everything it ever was and more.
Dressed in Californian 70’s attire with disco balls hanging parallel to each other in opposite corners of the stage, Christopher Owens and his band cast a dizzying set that contrasted to the dingy, yet comfortable feeling of the Biltmore.
Simon Fraser University's CJSF 90.1 has been on the FM dial for 11 years! We received our FM license in 2003 but have been melting ears for 47 years! To celebrate, we're throwing a huge party with six great local Vancouver bands.
Come out to The Astoria Pub on Friday September 26 to help celebrate this milestone and watch some of Vancouver's best bands.

CJSF 90.1FM is ready to bring the energy and joy from the Khatsahlano Festival to its listeners!
On Saturday, July 12th, CJSF Radio in conjunction with CiTR Radio is will be doing a live remote broadcast from the Khatsahlano Festival! All the performances on the Cypress Stage will be aired live from noon till 7pm.
On April 19, CJSF 90.1 FM in collaboration with CiTR 101.9 FM will be broadcasting live from Record Store Day. Both stations will be at record stores all around Vancouver broadcasting live performances and interviews with participating artists.
Týr is one of the more interesting heavy metal bands touring these days. Originating from the Faroe Islands, and naming themselves after the Norse god of law and justice, Týr have achieved a signature sound within the global metal scene.
