LCD Sound System with Guests

Afternoon drizzle and rumors of lingering mud from Massive Attack's show had Anna Grabowski wary of sporting runners for LCD Soundsystem's performance. Yet sunshine and frisbees were part of show with special guest's Holy Ghost! in the Malkin Bowl May 31st, 2010.

I first noticed the clouds parting when a frisbee wizzed by my head and Brooklyn’s Holy Ghost! took the stage to enchant listeners to their brand of new wave dance music.

The outdoor venue allowed both bands to blast hard hitting electro and bass rhythms making their music catchy and fun to move to. Holy Ghost! debuted some new material off of their new EP “Static on the Wire” but kept their performance short and sweet.

Fond memories of LCD Soundsystem blowing bass speakers at the Phoenix (Toronto) made the stage crew's actions seem sluggish, this time around as I hovered with anticipation. Shyer concert-goers finally got up off of their makeshift garbage bag seats to rush the stage as LCD Soundsystem pumped up the crowd with some songs off of their new album “This is Happening” including “Drunk Girls” and “I Can Change”. LCD's unique stomp-your-foot sound moved seamlessly from Digitalism-esque dance punk to more indie rock as the they delighted fans with classics “Tribulations”, “Daft Punk is Playing at my House” and “Us vs. Them”.

What can I say? I love their energy, I love that lead singer James Murphy pronounces Ibiza with a soft C, I love their homage to Jay-Z's “Empire State of Mind”, I love that they encored with the crowd pleaser “Someone Great” and I love that I still can't get it out of my head.
